Park Bench

vianah vasquez

The drop of sun, a bite of a crisp apple the peel

slipped between my teeth.

And I thought of you, sitting on that bench the grass

surrounding your small, and folding frame.

How solemn you look, at peace you seem

What do you think? As agile limbs

run past you. People in clothes that stick

to every crevice. I wonder

if you wish you could stand, right about now. Run.

In another life

you are opening your eyes for

the first time, feeling the warmth of the sun

drop of rain, burn of the grass. Or,

in the next, you are simply

the observer.

the apple skin between their teeth

wrinkles ahead

like you, simply choosing to sit.
